Perseverance

Scripture

Luke 8:11-15 NASB [11] “Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. [12] Those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved. [13] Those on the rocky soil are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no firm root; they believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away. [14] The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity. [15] But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.  James 1:3-4 NLT [3] For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. [4] So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Reflection

We are all walking on the path in our journey of faith. We have times when we are on good soil, maturing and producing good fruit.  We have other times when the Word is snatched from our heart and we struggle with doubt, unbelief, and faithlessness.  Setbacks can hit us hard and cause us to be discouraged. It is difficult to pick yourself up, get back on the path, and continue the journey you started.  We need to learn perseverance to develop deep spiritual roots. Some days our assignment is to dust ourselves off and get back on the road.  On other days our assignment is to persuade a friend to get back on the road.   We can stay on the path to maturity and bearing good fruit from our life.  When we lose our way, we are not alone.  The good Lord or a good friend will be there to help us get back on track.

Prayer

Today, may the Lord provide whatever you need to persevere.  May the Lord help you with any trial or trouble that you may face. May you remain committed to a fruitful life in Christ.
